About the Author

Lisa was named “Silent Strength” when she was a youth. “That person [who named me] had some insight that I wasn’t fully aware of at that time,” wrote Lisa. Mayes is an accomplished visual artist with a photographic memory and a fierce Mother of five with a deep connection to the natural world. Guided by intuition, her delicate lacework poetry reveals visceral emotions with the help of Mother Nature as her ally. Whether it is the emotions experienced by “prey” on the run or a mother guarding her small ones, whether it is speaking the unspeakable, so that it can be heard and voiced, at last; she is part of a generation of women who did not yet have the “me too” movement and made due, at home, in the forest, old school, with only notebooks and journals to receive powerful testimony.
