Red Waves by Julia Kajari

Listen:

Can you hear the ocean washing away the tide? How the waves make different sounds?

I stop.

I thought you had turned away

but in fact you got washed away

far in the deep blue sky.

Wait.

I look closer to see the sky is actually green a really ugly shade that

makes me wonder if you ever had to fade to fit in.

I shiver as a wave touches my feet.

I am shocked to see it’s not a wave

but blood

caressing my skin.

Metallic scent in the air

a dead fly buzzing in my ear

it’s suffocating how there’s not enough air and I’m beginning to

faint.

I think I saw you amidst the green

a really ugly green that

devoured your face.

Listen:

I think I might have been the one

painting everything red.

Sorry for the stains

but you were too careless to say

or even just to stay

so what’s the point anyways

if you never listen?
