Voices by Kiera Smith

I have given my hand
to the thieves of my mind and I
let them thread their way through these knots of my heart
that
are
tied directly
to
my
gut.
Criminals they are
building houses
leaving scars
in the center of my pupils
I flood their basements with tears
create earthquakes with my screams
Pump fire with my arteries into their
highways of my veins, demanding an evacuation
Crawling on the taste buds of my tongue,

I.
spit.
them.
Out.

About the Author

Kiera Smith loves turning emotions into poetry, and personifying those voices that linger a little too long in our minds. She adores quaint little places and quality moments with friends, as well as nature and cute little cafes. You can typically find her laughing a little too hard at her own jokes, or pondering life dramatically while staring at the rain fall outside a window while scribbling into one of her six notebooks. She has fallen deeply in love with the Kootenays, especially the people who live within it, and looks forward to what more life may have to offer. 🙂
