For everyone by Zaynab Mohammed

It’s clear we can’t agree

On the past, the present and how we came to be

Our pain of not being recognized

Hurts our decency

So we treat one another

With complacency

space

My parents come from war torn countries

They didn’t want to leave their homelands, culture, family or friends

They left for a second chance

A chance at living a life of dignity, of decency

space

You see, I don’t know how we can stop these machines

That strike human lives with their political bureaucracy

And in every strike they break down our teams

Of what we once called friends, family and neighbours

Into divisive enemies

space

When I talk with my friends

I hear their stories

Behind their words

Lays the same frequency

space

Do we really want to fight

On who is right, wrong, the enemy?

space

We agree to disagree

From science to spiritually

We breathe in reality

In sync with our beliefs, world views, perceptions and

conditionings

space

You see, I don’t know how we will ever all agree

On how this world should be

Or how it came to be

space

I can imagine our focus towards dignity

Towards a thread we can hold, braid, tie, weave

space

Dignity: A state or quality of being worthy of honour

and respect. A sense of pride in oneself.

space

Integrate dignity.

space

Integrity: The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.

The state of being whole and undivided.

space

Integer: From Latin: Intact, complete.

space

Cannot be corrupted.

space

Incorruptibility.

space

So I ask you

What will it take to focus on dignity

For ourselves

For each other

And all that is living

space

How will we heal

From the divisions cast upon us

space

What will we do

To change the world around us

Within us

space

Into a more intact

Incorruptible place

space

For ourselves

For each other

And for all the generations that follow
